Knowing Engine Oil

Engine oil lubricates the various kinds of part-part of the machine.

Engine oil has four main functions as follows:

  1. Lubricate
  2. Cool
  3. Cleanup
  4. Glue

Attention

  • Engine oil for diesel engines and gasoline is different. Compression and combustion pressure in diesel engines is very high, and the great power given to the part-rotating parts. Therefore, the engine oil used in diesel engine oil to form a film which is very strong. However, recently has produced a second type of oil for diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Engine oil level is due to decreased engine or heat oxidation, and must be replaced periodically.

Classification based on oil viscosity SAE index:

This index shows where the ambient temperature of a particular oil can be used.

(For example: "10W-30")

The bigger the number, the higher the oil viscosity.

Oil with a viscosity index which shows the range such as SAE 10W-30 oil is called "multi-grade".

The lower the number, such as "10," the less likely the oil to harden at low temperatures. The higher the second number, such as "30," the less likely that the oil becomes thinner at high temperatures.

"W" means winter ( "winter"), shows that the viscosity is for application at low temperatures.
